The dance performance „The String Theory“ was created as a result of the co-authorship of women aged between 50 and 60 years old and who used to dance in Dubravka Maletic’s studio (that was one of the significant places for the development of modern dance in Yugoslavia). Now, 30 years after the last joint appearance on the stage, they gathered to think about themselves and the changes that have occurred in the meantime. They ask themselves and others: „Can a woman dance in the theater and when she turns 50? What is her role in society and family? What is her attitude towards herself?“ This dance is the meter of a constant tension between general images of a woman and the specificity of personal histories, aspirations, attitudes towards herself and life. “The string theory” (developed in the framework of physics as an attempt to describe all known basic forces and the state of matter) is used in this presentation as a metaphor of the „female principle“ and sisterhood, but it also opens for other readings.
